Nurture greatness in you, Kumuyi tells graduands

The Chancellor, Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, Dr Williams Kumuyi, has enjoined the graduands of the institution to nurture the seed of greatness in them.

Speaking virtually at the second and third convocations and award of first degrees and prizes, Kumuyi said every great achievement started like a seed, saying disciplined was required to become successful.

“Great men, ambitions, and businesses all started like a seed, if you must truly succeed you must be willing and through discipline nurture the seed of greatness in you.

“Our core values are to impact the necessary knowledge by raising young men and women who are academically sound and I must tell today’s graduands that they need good character, competence and courage to succeed and you must take the three together.

“Always remember your pledge to God and your alma mater. You must distinguish yourself as the product of this school and reach your vantage with courage. “

Chairman Board of Trustees of the institution, Pastor Nkemjika Obinna, told the graduands not to forget the sacrifices of their parents.

“You should not forget your parents’ sacrifices for you. Love them, appreciate them and make them happy always. Your first degree is just the beginning of yet greater attainments in life. I charge you to draw closer to Jesus Christ.

AUL Pro-chancellor, Prof. Stephen OdiOwei, said, “Today’s ceremony is a mark of success for the graduands.

“Nevertheless, you must recognise that it is success at the lowest rung of the ladder of success.  Put God first, begin with the end in view, think to win-win always, be proactive, seek first to understand and then be understood. Synergise with others.”

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele who spoke on ‘The emergence of a private university with global relevance,’ said, “our management team continues to work tirelessly to improve our enrolment in order to enrich AUL financially. At this initial stage, however, we need support and I want to seize this unique opportunity to resent my golden requests to leaders who are unarguably positioned to assist our university.”

The overall best graduating student was from the 2021/2022 academic session, Eja Egbe of the Economics Department, who scored 4.00/4.00.

Augustine Eguavoen Did A Fine Job As Super Eagles Coach

By now it is no news to any Nigerian sports fan, that Augustin Eguavoen and his entire team have been relieved of their duties at the helm of affairs of the Nigerian National team. Most Nigerians are happy with this development, with some claiming that his immediate predecessor, Gernot Rohr would have delivered better results. However, a simple analysis of events will clearly demonstrate that Eguavoen did a fine enough job given the circumstances. I will attempt to undertake this analysis by demonstrating, first that Eguavoen has a better record than one might realize, and secondly by comparing the performance of his Super Eagles with that of Afcon winners, Senegal, and runners-up Egypt. When Gernot Rohr was sacked a few weeks to the Afcon, knowledgeable sportspersons decried the move, citing the difficulty any new coach would face in setting up the team to play to his own patterns. In analyzing Eguavoen, therefore, it must first be understood that the new boss was operating unde...
