How I escaped from kidnappers – Osun passenger

 A commuter abducted along Ilesa/Akure Expressway, Funmilayo Adejumo, has narrated how she escaped from her abductors, who kidnapped her along the expressway.

Adejumo, while speaking with newsmen on the telephone on Wednesday, said some gunmen had abducted her and two other female passengers in a vehicle going to Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday, at Iwaraja.

She said the driver of the vehicle and some passengers had fled into the bush upon realising that those that stopped them were kidnappers.

She further explained that their abductors later led her and two other female passengers into their camp after walking for about two hours in the bush.

She further disclosed that on Monday, two other women were brought into the camp, adding that she managed to escape after their abductors went hunting an animal and left them.

“We were stopped around 8pm on Sunday (at Iwaraja). There was a road block along Ilesa/Akure Expressway at Iwaraja and we all thought they were police at the check point.

“The driver and three passengers ran into the bush. One of the gunmen shot in their direction before returning to the car and asked us to come out. Myself and two other women were abducted. We walked for about two hours before we got to a place that looked like a temporary camp.

“They didn’t give us food till Monday morning when we were given garri and water to drink. They collected my phone and requested for names of my relatives they will contact when they are ready to collect ransom.

“Later in the night on Monday, two other persons were brought in and two hours later, they asked us all to move and we started walking again into the forest. Suddenly along the line the three abductors leading us decided to hunt down an animal. They left five of us, all female in the thick dark forest for about 20 minutes during which I just ran into a thick section of the forest.

“I walked all through the night for about four hours before coming out in a village and two men led me to the main road and directed me to Amotekun office in Oriade where I reported to the corps on duty and one of them gave me money, after making statement, to transport myself home,” Adejumo concluded.

When contacted, the Osun State Police Command Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, asked for time to contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area for details of the incident.

But the Osun Amotekun Field Commander, Amitolu Shittu, confirmed the incident, saying his men had combed the area to rescue other people.
