G5 governors shun Atiku in Abia campaign

Five Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party led by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the G5 governors, did not campaign for the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, as they flagged off the 2023 elections campaign in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Thursday.

Speaking during the campaign, Wike vowed that the group, now known as ‘Integrity Group’, would continue to fight for equity, fairness, and justice for the benefit of the poor masses.

He urged Abia residents to follow Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and ensure that all the PDP candidates for the 2023 general election were elected.

He said, “The G5 governors will continue to support all the candidates of the PDP in Abia State.

“There’s nothing like going back. Do whatever Ikpeazu tells you to do. He is a man of integrity, and honesty and he is dependable, unlike some people who we supported with money and yet they left the party.”

Also speaking, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State said the governors would not relent until Nigeria was rescued from insecurity, poverty, and social and economic problems.

Other governors in attendance, including Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, each canvased for support for the PDP candidates in the state.

In his remarks, Ikpeazu said his administration had left a blueprint for further development of the state through the provision of a masterplan for the state.

He added that Abia PDP could boast of the best candidates for all the elective offices in the 2023 general election, adding that other political parties in the state picked their candidates from the PDP’s dustbin.

High point of the event was the presentation of the PDP flag to Ikpeazu who is running for the Abia South senatorial district seat, and Professor Uche Ikonne, the Abia PDP governorship candidate, and others.

Augustine Eguavoen Did A Fine Job As Super Eagles Coach

By now it is no news to any Nigerian sports fan, that Augustin Eguavoen and his entire team have been relieved of their duties at the helm of affairs of the Nigerian National team. Most Nigerians are happy with this development, with some claiming that his immediate predecessor, Gernot Rohr would have delivered better results. However, a simple analysis of events will clearly demonstrate that Eguavoen did a fine enough job given the circumstances. I will attempt to undertake this analysis by demonstrating, first that Eguavoen has a better record than one might realize, and secondly by comparing the performance of his Super Eagles with that of Afcon winners, Senegal, and runners-up Egypt. When Gernot Rohr was sacked a few weeks to the Afcon, knowledgeable sportspersons decried the move, citing the difficulty any new coach would face in setting up the team to play to his own patterns. In analyzing Eguavoen, therefore, it must first be understood that the new boss was operating unde...

Utom, who uncovered that there w...
