Aisha Buhari suggests Ribadu-Binani ticket for Adamawa APC

Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has stated her willingness to unite the warring factions of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State.

Her revelation, which she posted on Instagram, comes after months of fierce competition for the state’s APC governorship ticket.

The PUNCH reported that Senator Aishatu Binani’s election as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa in May 2022 created a controversy, with her main competitor, former head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Nuhu Ribadu, disputing the outcome and heading for court.

As a result, the Adamawa APC was divided into two groups, with some backing Ribadu and others siding with Binani.

The Federal High Court in September nullified the primary election, saying the APC had no governorship candidate in the state.

However, the APC as well as Binani and Ribadu appealed the judgment.

On Thursday, November 24, the Appeal Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, declared Binani as the party’s governorship candidate.

In a post shared on her verified Instagram handle @aishambuhari early Tuesday, Aisha cited the courtesy call to her office by Adamawa State APC leaders on November 18, 2022, reaffirming her support for the concern of the party leaders.

She also committed to stepping in to ensure that “reason and common sense will prevail in Adamawa politics.”

According to her, northern leaders can learn from “the exemplary practice of their South-West counterparts in appointing women as deputies.”

She said this would serve as “a gradual approach to obtaining gender inclusion in our polity.”

Aisha, in part, said, “I would again like to repeat my appeal to respected leaders in the North to learn from the exemplary practice of their South-West counterparts in enthroning women as deputy governors in states as a gradual approach to obtaining gender inclusion in our polity.

“This is a most realistic step in our efforts at attaining gender justice instead of supporting the pursuit of the misplaced ambition of an individual do-or-die politician.”

Augustine Eguavoen Did A Fine Job As Super Eagles Coach

By now it is no news to any Nigerian sports fan, that Augustin Eguavoen and his entire team have been relieved of their duties at the helm of affairs of the Nigerian National team. Most Nigerians are happy with this development, with some claiming that his immediate predecessor, Gernot Rohr would have delivered better results. However, a simple analysis of events will clearly demonstrate that Eguavoen did a fine enough job given the circumstances. I will attempt to undertake this analysis by demonstrating, first that Eguavoen has a better record than one might realize, and secondly by comparing the performance of his Super Eagles with that of Afcon winners, Senegal, and runners-up Egypt. When Gernot Rohr was sacked a few weeks to the Afcon, knowledgeable sportspersons decried the move, citing the difficulty any new coach would face in setting up the team to play to his own patterns. In analyzing Eguavoen, therefore, it must first be understood that the new boss was operating unde...
