Kabiru Gaya: Osinbajo Not Sidelined In Tinubu’s Campaign

Former Kano State governor, Senator Kabiru Gaya, has insisted that contrary to reports making the rounds, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was not sidelined in the formation of the presidential campaign team of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gaya, who served as the Director-General of the support groups of Osinbajo when the vice president sought the presidential ticket of the APC, told journalists in Kano that the Osinbajo remained committed to the presidential ambition of the APC candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said, “I am a member of Tinubu campaign team, so the issue of sidelining anyone does not arise. Even the president has said he wants Osinbajo to be with him in running the affairs of the country to ensure seamless handover.

“There is nothing like Osinbajo is sidelined because after the primaries, we were in Osinbajo’s house when Tinubu came and said he needed our support. We had over two hours’ discussion. They are working together. Politics should not divide us.”

Gaya, who is seeking his 5th return to the red chamber, said he is optimistic that in Kano State, the APC would sweep the votes in all the electoral positions, predicting that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) would come second while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would come third.

Gaya said the APC was not worried by the growing strength of the NNPP, claiming that it would only split the votes belonging to the PDP.

Augustine Eguavoen Did A Fine Job As Super Eagles Coach

By now it is no news to any Nigerian sports fan, that Augustin Eguavoen and his entire team have been relieved of their duties at the helm of affairs of the Nigerian National team. Most Nigerians are happy with this development, with some claiming that his immediate predecessor, Gernot Rohr would have delivered better results. However, a simple analysis of events will clearly demonstrate that Eguavoen did a fine enough job given the circumstances. I will attempt to undertake this analysis by demonstrating, first that Eguavoen has a better record than one might realize, and secondly by comparing the performance of his Super Eagles with that of Afcon winners, Senegal, and runners-up Egypt. When Gernot Rohr was sacked a few weeks to the Afcon, knowledgeable sportspersons decried the move, citing the difficulty any new coach would face in setting up the team to play to his own patterns. In analyzing Eguavoen, therefore, it must first be understood that the new boss was operating unde...
