Fu Zhenghua: China Ex-justice Minister Jailed For Life Over $16m Bribe

  China's former justice minister Fu Zhenghua, who spearheaded several corruption-fighting campaigns, has been jailed for bribery . Fu pleaded guilty in July to accepting 117 million yuan ($14.7m; $16.5m) in gifts and money for personal gain . On Thursday, a  court in Changchun gave him a death sentence to be commuted to life in prison after two years . His conviction comes amid a sudden crackdown on officials ahead of a key Communist Party congress next month. China's ruling party holds the event once every five years and this time President Xi Jinping is expected to be given a historic third term and consolidate his hold on power. Herdsmen Slaughter 12 People In Benue, Spark Protest (Graphic Photos)

  Some armed men suspected to be herdsmen militias reportedly invaded Mchia in Mbagber council ward Logo Benue State yesterday midnight. Salemgists learned that the militias struck the community in the midnight when the people were in their beds. A source in the area told the publication that no fewer than 12 people were killed in the attack that lasted for an hour. The source said uncountable casualties were recorded. Another source said the villagers who were angered by the yesterday incident, attacked Hausa community this morning, September 22. It was gathered that the mob razed down business and houses. Dele Momodu: PDP's Only Crisis Is Caused By One Man Who Lost An Election

  A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation Magazine,  Dele Momodu, has said that the only crisis surrounding the PDP is caused by one person. Dele Momodu stated this on Thursday during a chat with ARISE TV concerning the recent withdrawal of Governor Nyesom Wike’s camp from the PDP campaign council. Tambuwal Takes Over From Fayemi As NGF Chairman

  Sokoto State Governor,  Aminu Tambuwal, has replaced his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, as the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum. Tambuwal assumed the position on Thursday at the National Economic Council meeting in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, after Fayemi transferred the baton of office to him.   Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has lambasted the Federal Government of Nigeria, noting that the country cannot have two systems. ASUU Strike: Soohemba Agatha Aker Drags Buhari, 36 Govs To Court

  A  final year law student at the Benue State University, Soohemba Agatha Aker  has  filed a lawsuit before a Federal High Court against President Muhammadu Buhari, and the 36 state governors over alleged poor handling of the dispute between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Akin Adesina: Nigeria Needs Help With Debt Burden

  Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), says Nigeria needs help from the international community in tackling its debt burden. Speaking at the Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum in New York on Thursday, Adesina said financing is critical to solving Nigeria’s development challenges. “Financing is critical because the debt to GDP ratio of Africa has increased to 70 percent several countries are the risk of high debt distress due to unstable, unsustainable debt levels,” he said. “Nigeria’s total debt level is N42.84 trillion or $103 billion. ASUU Appeals Ruling, Says FG Has Declared War

  The striking Academic Staff Union of Universities will on Friday (today) file an appeal against the ruling of the National Industrial Court which directed its members to resume work, The PUNCH has learnt. Counsel for ASUU, Femi Falana (SAN), disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday. ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home its demands for improved funding for universities and a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.   Outgoing governor of Ekiti State,  Kayode Fayemi, who doubles as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) on Thursday attended his last meeting, where he spoke glowingly of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. He described Osinbajo who also doubles as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) of exemplary leadership, especially in galvanizing ideas from governors across the federation to foster development.
