UPU loses foremost woman leader at 95

The Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, foremost Urhobo sociocultural group has lost one of its foremost women leaders, Chief (Mrs.) Lady Agbaza, nee Jedia who passed on at 95. The sad news was broken yesterday in Warri by the family spokesperson, Mr Benson Jefia in a press release. The press statement read in part, “The families of Jefia of Ughevwughe in Ughelli South Local Government Area and Ohwhowho Family of Otorho Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area both of Delta State announce the passing on to glory of their Matriarch Chief Mrs. Agnes Lady Agbaza (nee Jefia) who passed on recently at the ripe age of Ninety-five years. “Until Mama’s death Late Chief Lady Agbaza was a successful business woman, real estate developer and a community leader. 50-year-old bomb manufacturer discovered and arrested in Imo

The Imo State Police Command on Friday said it arrested and paraded a 50-year-old-man, one Simeon Onigbo, suspected to be a bomb manufacturer for gunmen used in attacking police stations and government facilities in the state. The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Micheal Abattam, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri. The command said it on Wednesday uncovered and raided the bomb manufacturing camp at Uba Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, based on the credible information that was made available to the Police. However, he said the suspect had mentioned the names of other suspects in the bomb manufacturing within and outside the states. “In-Line with the Commissioner of Police strategy in stemming crime, the Command’s Tactical Teams, following credible intelligence received on 20/4/2022 at about 1700hours, revealed the hideout where they are manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices used in attacking Police Stations and Government facilities in the state.

20 killed in Benue villages as herders invade communities in two LGAs

At least 20 persons have been reportedly killed in what appeared another coordinated attack on Benue communities in Waya, Jato-Aka, Turan and villages in Mbabuande and Mbapa Council Wards of Kwande and Gwer West Local Areas of the state respectively. It was gathered from a source in the Turan area that the victims of the Waya attack were killed on their farms by the bandits who invaded the community at about 11 am on Thursday. “When they came into our community our people were on their farms to prepare for the cropping season since it started raining a few days back. “It was while on the farm that the herdsmen stormed our village and all those they caught up within the farms were killed while the lucky ones escaped with serious injuries. “So far eight mutilated bodies of the victims have been recovered including those of children and a family of four who were murdered in cold. “The bodies recovered include those of Gbaeren Orsoo, Terdoo Tsega, Bemdoo Tsega, Abacha Tsega, Terkaa Tsega, ...

Tinubu tells APC zonal state women leaders that women should not be confined to shadows,

APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said women should not be confined to the shadows, rather they should be empowered in all social, economic and political spheres. Sad news: The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, joins ancestors at 83

THE Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, last night joined his ancestors. He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for over 52 years. Oba Lamidi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, joined his ancestors at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State. His remains were said to have been moved to Oyo town in the earliest part of Saturday and were received at Idi-Igba by his first son, Prince Tunde and his other siblings. The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, is expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, the head of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo town before a new Alaafin is installed. APC settles for indirect primary, rules out consensus

The All Progressives Congress will choose its presidential candidate through an indirect primary election. The decision was reached at the party’s 11th National Executive Committee meeting holding at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja. Also, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and other leaders of the party transmitted their powers to the National Working Committee of the APC to make decisions for a period of 90 days. Among those who will be contesting the APC Presidential primary are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi; and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
